I asked for a raise for the first time a few years ago. At the time, asking for what I thought I deserved and having a frank discussion about money was outside of my comfort zone — but I did it anyway. In an ideal world, your boss would notice your accomplishments and give you a raise. You’d also have nap pods, unlimited meals and snacks and free fitness classes. In the real world, that is rarely the case.
